"The best week of my summer!"

Numerous volunteers return year after year to experience the magic of watching a child ride for the first time — not to mention the allure of another cool tee shirt. We welcome volunteers who are at least 8th grade.

Get hours for community service

Half and full day volunteer opportunities give you the chance to spend time with some very cool people, be part of the magic when a new rider takes flight, and still have energy to celebrate afterward. Don’t worry about exercising this week, for you will get plenty here! Bring your community service form from your school and we’ll sign it!

The riders you work with will bond with you

The power of that bond is critical to the rider’s success and can be compromised by hit-or-miss volunteer attendance. Additionally, many of our participants are sensitive to change. For these reasons, consistency in spotter attendance is vital.

Volunteers should be in at least 6th grade. If you are interested in volunteering but aren't yet in 6th grade, please contact bikefirst@abicommunity.org to discuss it.

Register to be a Bike First! Volunteer

Due to the state of the pandemic and medically fragile riders, ALL campers, caregivers, and volunteers/workers must be fully vaccinated following CDC definitions in order to enter the building and participate. As of March 12th, masks are optional. Vaccination cards will be required on applications.

Step One: Register Online

Fill out the online registration form below. If you are under 18, please have a parent or legal guardian complete the "Electronic Signature" portion of the form.

Step Two: "Friend" Us on Facebook

All volunteers must "friend" annbikefirst on Facebook.

Step Three: Plan for Volunteer Party / Orientation

Mark your calendar to attend a MANDATORY party / orientation meeting on Sunday, June 19th, 5:00 - 6:30 PM at De La Salle North Catholic High School.  

Due to cancellation of Bike First! The past two years and Covid 19, participation in this event is not optional.

Step Four: Receive Confirmation via e-mail

We will send you a Volunteer Spotter acceptance confirmation of your volunteer times and dates via e-mail. Please check your in-box and your junk box too, as this has been a problem in the past. There will be significantly less volunteers accepted due to C19.

Waiver / Release
Photographic Release
I/We hereby give consent to NW Disability Suppor and to photograph our child/self to educate others about the programs and services offered by NW Disability Support. Among the uses contemplated are illustration of articles in newsletters, in profiles that contributors receive, in brochures, to illustrate services discussed on the web site, in displays at community fairs, to publicize local programs, to make professional presentations, to conduct research on teaching techniques and equipment used at the clinic, and to publicize the equipment and teaching methods used. In giving approval, I/we understand it is without consideration of compensation of any kind, and NW Disability Support is released from any claims or liability. If wider use is contemplated, NW Disability Support will get separate approval.
Medical Release
In the event that an emergency requiring medical or surgical care or treatment should arise while attending the ABI: Bike First! program, and I/We ARE NOT PRESENT TO MAKE MEDICAL DECISIONS, I/we give consent for the Bike First! clinic staff to select and designate nurses, physicians, emergency medical staff (EMS) and surgeons to furnish such medical and/or surgical care as, in the judgment of a physician and/or surgeon holding a physician’s certificate issued by the Board of Medical Examiners of the State of Oregon may be needful and proper. I/We absolve NW Disability Support, and nurses, physicians, EMS personnel, and surgeons selected and designated by them, from any and all liability for their acts rendered in good faith.
Personal Property
I/We recognize that NW Disability Support cannot accept responsibility for our personal property. To help eliminate losses, please tag name inside equipment, clothes or other personal items.
Electronic Signature
This application must be "signed" electronically by someone over the age of 18. If you are under 18, please have a parent or guardian complete this portion of the application.
