What Does Back to School Mean for My Child? Know your rights, unpack the guidance, and find the best information to support your child in the 2020-2021 school year with Candace Pelt from the Oregon Department of Education.

We are excited to have Dr. Candace Pelt, Assistant Superintendent for Student Services, at the Oregon Department of Education (ODE), presenting on ODE’s Ready Schools, Safe Learners Guidance for School Year 2020-2021. Candace will unpack this guidance that ODE creates so every school district in Oregon can support requirements of the upcoming school year.

Dr. Pelt’s previous experience includes a position as the Director for Special Programs and Elementary Education in Newberg. Candace has presented at ABI and shares our empowering values and belief in equity and the right for every child to belong and to have the supports they need to be successful in school.

Partnerships and communication are critical for these changing times and Dr. Pelt is looking forward to supporting, presenting, and answering questions from families. Eric Wells from the Office of Student Services Regional Programs and Best Practices with ODE will be moderating and monitoring the questions.

In the Ready Schools, Safe Learners Guidance there are levers to support your child's needs and safety. This session will offer clarity around Oregon's metrics for re-opening, applying to all Oregon schools, that was created between the Governor, Oregon Health Authority, and Oregon Department of Education. This session will be recorded live and offer a live chat for Q&A as time allows.
